Dr Katja Simoncelli profile details
About Katja
Dr Katja Simoncelli is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and a systemic practitioner registered with the Health Care Professional Council with extensive experience in the NHS, charity and private sectors.
Over the years, I have worked with adults, adolescents and families in a wide range of settings including outpatient psychotherapy clinics and in therapeutic communities.
Supporting individuals with complex emotional needs
My expertise includes supporting individuals with complex emotional needs and trauma, both in the NHS and at the Anna Freud Centre. In the NHS, I worked primarily with adults with personality and relational difficulties.
At the Anna Freud Centre, my work involved providing individual, group, and parent-child attachment-based therapy to parents with complex emotional needs and their children aged 0-5 years old with attachment difficulties.
Currently, I work full time in private practice where I see adults in person in my consulting room in Central or Southeast London.
I have some capacity for remote sessions online.
I also supervise clinicians from different clinical backgrounds and offer consultations and psychotherapy in English and Italian.
Who I work with
I work with a wide range of issues, from common mental health problems such as stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, to more complex issues such as relational trauma, PTSD and personality disorders.
However, psychological therapy is not exclusively for people meeting criteria for mental health disorders. Individuals often come to see me because they struggle with various aspects of their lives. At times it is because life feels overwhelming or perhaps relationships with others have become painful.
Some may feel stuck in repeating patterns while others might sense a vague but profound dissatisfaction that is hard to articulate. For some, it can be specific events, such as a significant loss, starting or ending an intimate relationship, or navigating major life changes.
Currently I work with adults, young adults, couples, and parents.

Taking the First Step
Deciding to start therapy is a big move, and it’s completely normal to feel a bit apprehensive about it. People reach out for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes life just feels like too much, or relationships that used to be easy have become a source of pain.
You might feel "stuck" in the same old patterns, or perhaps you have a nagging sense that something isn’t quite right, even if you cannot put your finger on why. Whether you are navigating a major life change (such as a loss or the end of a relationship) or simply feeling "off," you do not have to carry that weight alone.
A Space for You
Everyone experiences struggle differently. You might be feeling anxious, angry, or just a bit numb. Often, we are our own harshest critics, placing impossible expectations on ourselves.
In our sessions, there is no "right" way to be. This is a personalised journey that moves at your pace, centred entirely around your unique story.
How We Work Together
I practice Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which is a way of looking beneath the surface. Instead of just focusing on the symptoms, we explore the "why" behind them.
It is a talking therapy where you are free to share whatever is on your mind. Together, we will look for the hidden patterns or old habits that might be holding you back without you even realising it. By connecting these dots, therapy can help you:
Find relief from overwhelming emotions.
Clear the fog so you can see your situation more objectively.
Identify real changes you can make today.
Find peace with the things that are outside of your control.
Professional Supervision
Beyond my private practice, I provide clinical supervision for psychologists and healthcare professionals. I offer a supportive, reflective space for practitioners from various backgrounds to explore their clinical work and professional growth
